Modern Mass

Modern Mass brings us to an intersection—Catholic and colonized. At this intersection, you’ll find, among many others, the Philippines. For me, it’s the intersection between religious trauma and diasporic pain.

Modern Mass holds memories, vignettes from personal experiences with Spain’s colonial Catholicism and seeking indigenous roots. The haunted, empty feeling of knowing that there is something more out there—of staggering through history, looking for something before Spain.
